Pithoragarh: Tension spread in the city after two minor girls from Dharchula in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand were taken away by two men from Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh on the pretext of marrying them. Giving information about this on Thursday, the police said that an arrest has been made in this connection. Pithoragarh Superintendent of Police Lokeshwar Singh said that the police recovered both the girls from Bareilly on February 4, 3 days after receiving information about the incident and one of the two accused has also been arrested.
Tension prevailed in Dharchula for few days
SP said that in this regard, a case has been registered against the accused under sections 363, 376 of IPC and POCSO. He told that the second accused is still absconding. After the incident that came to light on February 1, tension remained in Dharchula town for a few days and local people demonstrated on the streets demanding the recovery of the girls and action against the culprits. However, the Superintendent of Police said that there is peace in the city after the recovery of the two minor girls and the arrest of one accused.
Police resumed verification work
Singh said that in view of the incident, the police has again started the work of verification of people coming from outside and settling in Pithoragarh for work, business or any other purpose. Meanwhile, Dharchula Trade Association has canceled the registration of all its members until the verification work is completed. Union President Bhupendra Singh Thapa said, ‘We have canceled the registration of all 630 members associated with the trade union Dharchula. Now new registration will happen only when the verification is completed by the police. He said that even after completion of verification, only those traders who are doing business in Dharchula since 2000 will be registered.
