Actually, Rahul Gandhi has written this letter regarding the problems of workers related to Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGA) in West Bengal. Rahul Gandhi wrote a letter to PM Narendra Modi
In his letter, Rahul Gandhi wrote, I am writing to you about the devastating plight of MREGS (MNREGA) workers in West Bengal and their continuous fight for justice. My journey under Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra is passing through West Bengal. During this, a delegation of MNREGA workers from West Bengal Khel Mazdoor Samiti informed me about these problems. A copy of the representation is reproduced here. Here lakhs of our brothers and sisters have been deprived of their work. Rahul Gandhi said that due to stoppage of central funds of MNREGA, lakhs of brothers and sisters have been deprived of their work from March 2022.
This demand for MNREGA workers
In his letter, Rahul Gandhi wrote to PM Modi and said, I have been told that due to stoppage of central funds, many workers have not been paid for their work since 2021. Besides, there has also been a huge decline in the number of families getting work under MNREGA. In 2021-22, 75 lakh families got work under MNREGA, which has reduced to 8000 in 2023-24. The biggest impact of this decline has been seen on the poor, women, SC and ST categories. Let us tell you that Rahul Gandhi wrote this letter on 10 February when his visit reached Bengal.
