Why did the competition stop?
Actually, in this competition, apart from kissing for the longest time, many rules also had to be followed. For example, if the couple’s lips separate from each other while kissing, they will be out of the competition. They could drink water or juice through a straw without separating their lips. During this time, couples had to stay awake continuously and could not even sit. Even rest was not allowed. In such a situation, if the couples had to use the toilet, then they had to do it without separating their lips and a referee also accompanied them to the toilet to monitor it. These rules were making this competition dangerous. After setting the record in 1999, the contestants became extremely exhausted and almost fainted. He was immediately taken to the hospital. In 2004, after setting the record of kissing for 31 hours and 18 minutes, the life of a competitor had to be saved by giving him oxygen. A woman participating in the competition in 2011 fainted after only 30 minutes.
Other kissing records
In August 2020, a Japanese couple, Kumiko Shiratori and Cherry Yoshitake, held the record for the most number of kisses, 277 in 1 minute. Last year, on Valentine’s Day, a loving couple, Beth Neal of South Africa and Miles Cloutier of Canada, set a record for smooching underwater for 4 minutes and 6 seconds. Experts believe that kissing releases happy hormones and reduces stress. At the same time, there is a risk of infection if hygiene is ignored.
