A security guard was killed in an attack on election workers in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Thursday, an official said, according to Iranian media.

The attack occurred in the Kot Azam area of ​​the Tank district when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a security team protecting polling workers, the local police emergency center told Anadolu by phone. It said that voting at Kot Azam station has been temporarily stopped.

The district where the incident took place shares its border with Afghanistan.

The tank borders the Waziristan district near the Afghan border. Pakistan has closed its border with Afghanistan and Iran due to the ongoing voting in its country.

Chaos due to suspension of mobile service

Earlier on Wednesday, authorities also suspended mobile phone services across the country after at least 29 people were killed in three separate bomb blasts.
