islamabad: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) of Pakistan has given a big relief to jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan. In fact, the court on Saturday granted him bail in 12 cases related to the attacks on military installations by his supporters on May 9 last year following his arrest in an alleged corruption case. ATC Judge Malik Ijaz Asif granted bail to Khan, founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, in all 12 cases including attacks on General Headquarters (Pakistan Army) and Army Museum.

There is no justification for arrest

The court said there was no justification for keeping 71-year-old Imran Khan under arrest as all the accused in the May 9 case were on bail. However, Imran Khan will remain in jail as he has been convicted in several other cases. The court order came a day after independent candidates backed by Imran Khan’s party won nearly 100 seats in the National Assembly. In the same case, former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has also been granted bail in 13 cases.

Convicted on 6th February

Let us inform that Imran Khan and PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi were convicted in the cases on February 6. Both the leaders were produced in the court, where the former prime minister informed the judge that they were illegally arrested from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) premises on May 9. Khan was booked in several cases related to the violence that broke out on May 9 following his arrest in an alleged corruption case. The cases reported in Rawalpindi include attack on the gate of General Headquarters (GHQ), riot in the office of a sensitive institution and other cases. Khan has denied the allegations mentioned in the FIR of the case.
